I just installed Ubuntu Feisty Fawn on my new machine, which has Nvidia 7050 PV onboard graphics. I tried installing the latest stable "new" Nvidia driver, 1.0-9755, using Ubuntu's Restricted Drivers Manager, but only got a black screen when I rebooted. I get a "no screens found" error when I try the open source nv driver. I have also tried Envy, the python script for ubuntu and debian to install Nvidia drivers, with the same black screen result. In looking at the supported cards list for the latest stable and the beta release of the drivers, 100.14.06, I don't see the 7050 PV listed. Does anyone know if there is an Nvidia release that supports this video chipset, or if not when one is expected? The vesa driver is working for now, but 1024x768 on a 1440x900 flat panel is somehow not very satisfying. Thanks for any information.

Please generate and attach an nvidia-bug-report.log while this problem is present with 100.14.06.

The nvidia-bug-report.log for my attempt with the 100.14.06 drivers is attached. With this driver, I get an error ((EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to allocate 2D engine 0x0000502d), then X is disabled.

I'm having exactly the same trouble. Do we know if 7050pv is supported or not? It's not on the list, but netllama's comments suggests he thinks it would work anyway (eg. he didn't say it wouldn't). Anybody having success with the 7050pv?

This GPU is supported, however it appears that there's potentially a problem with the support on this Biostar motherboard.
matter9, are you using the same Biostar motherboard as penquissciguy? |

Netllama, Yes I'm using the same Biostar TF-7050-M2 and get the blank screen. I also don't get the gnome sound nor can I switch into another virtual terminal, so I force a hard reset and then reconfigure for vesa, which works, but only up to 1280x1024. Anything I can do to further test here?

netllama: any idea which driver version supports the 7050?
I'm still waiting on the Abit AN-M2HD (http://www.abit.com.tw/page/en/mothe...YPE=Socket+AM2) before I upgrade my motherboard and would like to make sure I have the right graphics driver in place so it's hopefully a simple motherboard swap... |

Here's hopefully another piece of the puzzle. I was playing around in the BIOS trying to get the nvidia driver to work. I set the framebuffer manually to 256 MB (was previously on auto). The driver failed with the same error I mentioned above, but the X server's error output told me the framebuffer was 524288 kilobytes. When I set the framebuffer to 16 MB in bios, I got the same error message but the X server error output tells me the framebuffer is 128 MB (131072 kb). For some reason, it seems the nvidia driver isn't getting the proper framebuffer size from the bios. Hope this helps figure out what's going on here.
