I have a ViewSonic VP930 flat panel monitor on a GF7600GS under Fedora (6, now 7). The monitor is connected to the videocard via DVI.
When the system uses the "nv" driver, the monitor switches between screens (e.g. Ctrl-Alt-F1 for virtual console and then back Ctrl-Alt-F7 for X, or from my desktop to VMware OS, or from my desktop to a game) much quicker compared to "nvidia" diver. When using "nvidia" driver the monitor goes blank for about 3 seconds or more, and a gentle high-pitch noise comes out of it (like from a CRT). This is not the case when using "nv" driver, in which case the monitor directly shows the new picture (well not always, but still). Is there any configuration options to correct this behavior? It's very counterproductive. I'm posting my latest configs, although I tried many different options in the "Monitor" section: with nv driver: Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Default Layout" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" Option "XkbModel" "pc105" Option "XkbLayout" "us" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Videocard0" Driver "nv" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Videocard0" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 24 EndSubSection EndSection With nvidia driver: Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Default Layout" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" EndSection Section "Module" Load "glx" Load "extmod" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" Option "XkbModel" "pc105" Option "XkbLayout" "us" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Videocard0" Driver "nvidia" Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Videocard0" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 24 EndSubSection # Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True" EndSection Section "Extensions" Option "Composite" "Enable" EndSection |
