Default Vertical sync - how to FORCE?

Hello everybody.

I'm trying to enable some apps (especially two emulators: gens & zsnes) to work with vertical sync - because I can't stand this "tearing" effect anymore. Even thou I set all (I think) options like __GL_SYNC_TO_VBLANK to 1 - I still don't get any vsync . Under Windows I always FORCE Vertical Sync - and it works flawless - so... how do I FORCE my Opengl apps to always use Vsync under Linux? I'm running Debian 4.0 - 2.6.18-k7

I know I can set my monitor to 60 (and then everything is fine - no "tearing") - but, honestly - my eyes can't stand so low refresh rate - I'm trying to run this apps in 640x480x16 @ 120 Hz (this is the best refresh rate my monitor is capable of).

Here is my .nvidia-settings-rc:
Code:
#
# /home/james/.nvidia-settings-rc
