Default Play Halo 2 and Shadow Run on XP, soon.

http://firingsquad.com/news/newsarti...searchid=15929

Late last month, Microsoft released the PC versions of Halo 2 and Shadowrun. Both games can only be played on Microsoft's Vista OS, but a company called Falling Lead Studios has announced that it will be releasing software programs that it claims will allow both games to be played on the far higher installed base Windows XP. According to the site the release of these software programs will be made by late July. No pricing for the programs has been announced. There's also no word if Microsoft might try to stop these programs from being released.

theyll stop them from being released. anything to push vista sales, even in the smallest amount.

only way they will get the software out is if it's open source.

I still wouldn't buy either game. Both stink. HALO 2 looks dated and Shadowrun is for a select few gamers that might think it's decent, but certainly doesn't attract to many. That was the basis of reviews I read. But if they released that software, it could jeopardize Microsoft BS of requiring Windows and DX10 people will strip the code down and do what's necessary to avoid needing Vista... (at least in my mind)

I am actually surprised as hell MS has gone this long with tying DirectX10 to Vista and requiring anyone wanting DX10 to have to get Vista. Did we not just have a massive court case because Microsoft apparently tied Internet Explorer into XP?

Well I just love this, I think it's a good thing to stop adding new features to older OS, XP is 5 years old and lot did happen in the meanwhile in every possible direction

So, yeah DX10 is Vista and I like this

Neither of those two games are DX10, so why are they Vista only? It's not about adding new features to an old OS, its about keeping games off of a system just to strong arm consumers into buying a new OS.

Well it would be about bypassing the installers check I guess.
And possibly enable Live Anywhere! on XP?
And that installfree installer thing...

Actually, Halo 2 for Vista is selling really good right now, even with the requirements.

1) World Of Warcraft - Vivendi
2) World Of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Expansion Pack - Vivendi
3) The Sims 2 Seasons Expansion Pack - Electronic Arts
4) Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars - Electronic Arts
5) Halo 2 - Microsoft
6) The Sims 2 Celebration Stuff Expansion Pack - Electronic Arts
7) Civilization IV - 2K Games
8) The Sims 2 Deluxe - Electronic Arts
9) Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows Of Angmar - Midway
10) Half-Life 2: Episode 1 - Electronic Arts

Hahahahaha, this is coming from the same person who says he's going to allow directx 10 games to run on XP. I don't have a lot of faith in this at all.

That is PC only sales.

Surprises me, I didn't think it would sell very well with its heavy O.S. requirement.

The number of people that bought it without knowing it was vista only I'm sure is probably near 50%.

Shadowrun for pc didn't do too well though
