Default Asus F3SV graphics driver problem

Hi,

I have a brand new Asus F3SV with the 8600M GS installed. I was wondering if there is any issue knows with the 8600M GS and the X server hanging when using the 100.14.09 drivers. I tried installing the drivers on the following linux distros:

OpenSuse 10.2 32 bit
OpenSuse 10.2 64 bit
Ubunty 7.04 64 bit

In all cases the Xserver crashed with a black screen as previously described here:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=92434

I was wondering if anyone also experiences this issue, if there is nothing known then I will try installing the drivers yet again and post my nvidia bug report.

alrighty. I wanted to ask if there were any known issues already before I trash my system again.
I ll attach the log. I was not able to do a bug report while this happened, did it in recovery mode. However when I did startx in recovery mode, it told me about my card not receiving interrupts ??

Hopefully you guys can help

(EE) NVIDIA(0): The NVIDIA kernel module does not appear to be receiving
(EE) NVIDIA(0): interrupts generated by the NVIDIA graphics device
(EE) NVIDIA(0): PCI:1:0:0. Please see Chapter 8: Common Problems in the
(EE) NVIDIA(0): README for additional information.
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA graphics device!

This is not a driver bug. This is a kernel or BIOS problem.

thanks for the very quick response. So the only hope is updating the BIOS?

try "noirqdebug" (it's a kernel-paramter put it next to the root=... in grub).
But, be warned this is only a temporal "hack", but it may work.

This looks like a completely different problem. X is now just hanging:

(II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode "1024x768"
(--) NVIDIA(0): No video decoder detected
