Ya look at your system... C'mon I sure F'ing hope it runs well... I'm not hear to instigate a Flame war but you Vehement Vista supporters are irritating and in some cases, so full of *****. People upgraded to Vista, imo, for one thing. A new GUI. DX10 games are not coming out by the dozens and most games coming, including Crysis support DX9 and that wont change anytime soon.

Now here's a person who knows what is.. Thank you. I'm done in this thread from here on.

I'd like to run Vista myself, just for a change of GUI, not for the marketing reasons and certainly not for DX10. But I can't run it because my PC was blue screening etc after installing supposed WHQL nForce drivers. I'll wait another few months thanks..

For those thinking/considering Vista.. I am really beginning to doubt 64bit, you might be better off 32bit in terms of overall application availability and gaming. I bought 64bit, but you know I think it was a mistake. Maybe too early to say anything about 64bit.. but that's the problem with Vista anyhow.. it's just way to early to deem it's real worth.

I find that Vista is a little more responsive than XP during general usage. I'm also enjoying the sidebar, which while being a mediocre implementation of OSX' dashboard, does a lot to help the aging Windows workflow. Gaming performance is significantly slower using 1gb RAM, but with 2gb and a nice cpu/gpu combo the performance difference in most games is negligible. I'm really enjoying Vista overall.

I run Vista myself, cause had some weird bugs within XP (2 actually)

And I bought the OEM version of Vista Ultimate with my new XP, so why not

I could buy it for €192 I guess, so ....

Sidebar is available in XP via Yahoo Widgets and various other excellent widget software packages. Free.

Responsive, don't know, when I want to see the properties of a shortcut, it takes quite a while, so I don't think Vista is that responsive already

It's definately more responsive than XP for me. I can see the properties of a shortcut instantly....like there is no delay at all.

I still run on x86, not on x64

I still bought the x86 version, cause it seems most of the drivers, applications, games don't run very well on x64

My next OS is gonna be 64bit

I'll just list that for starters. Most of Vista's improvements are under the hood. The GUI is probably the main new feature the end user will consciously notice. The majority of the improvements are working behind the scenes. Without getting too technical.

What pisses me off is how people claim that Vista is merely XP with a new GUI. That is so far from the truth it baffles me people have that low of an IQ. Really, there is far more to Vista than what meets the eye- literally.

The more of these gadgets you add on to XP, the heavier XP will be on your resources. One of the features I noticed first off about Vista was that it has superb memory management. There were times where I had two games running at once (FarCry and BFME)- neither game was paused, and it took merely a few seconds to switch between either game and the desktop. In XP, it'd take atleast twice as long- some times one or both of the games would freeze.

That's why I don't run any extra themes with XP. It doesn't off load the memory usage and resource sufficiently to make it worth while. And I'm not going to purchase a top of the line rig simply so I can do that. My current rig runs Vista near flawlessly, save for this God-awful nVidia drivers that don't allow SLi to work properly.

Ya.. I also noticed that Alt-Tabing from a game to desktop to another program all running at the same time is seamless and fast. It was even faster and works perfectly after getting 4gigs of memory (even though my 32bit version only see's 3gigs it still helped a lot).

Why do you use Windows XP vs. sticking with Windows Vista? Makes no sense.. Vista x64 = fast, stable, 4GB of RAM, beautiful, powerful, productive. Even Apple is trying to catch Vista buy implementing transparency, (partial) x64, quickview, saved searches and other stuff in Leopard (that Vista already has).

I cannot imagine quadcore CPU on XP, Vista is much better designed for plenty of cores, and plenty of RAM. If you are still on slow Athlon 64 3000+ and 1GB of RAM, ok, keep XP. But we do not need to know.. Keep it as a secret (for yourself).
