then your AA is not working, AA+splintercell = bad lighting through walls and such.

HardOCP showed NV30 have problem with splinter cell.
With NV30, objects covered shadows, not shadows covering objects.
Though i'm not sure how it would fare with different drivers.

If the 5800 doesn't arrive in any capacity, it seems to me that nVidia is giving up to ATI for this product cycle, in the high-end. I still think the NV31 and NV34, however, are very strong products, and nVidia would do very well to mass produce these (this is, after all, where the real money is).

not sure if you can call them STRONG products there chalnoth...

compared to the current gen of both ati and nvidia products their performance is nothing earth-shattering...

they are on the other hand extremely PRACTICAL solutions... specially for the price range...

I would expect their margins to be decent on these cards.. as you state... but again.. performance is a bit off per the [p]reviews

hopefully when the RETAIL cards hit.. there will be the kind of improvement seen with the 9500pro (BIg improvement with new cat's @ time of release)

I think NV34 will be successful for the ppl who buy budget vga's don't really care about vga's.
A few mighty words, "DX9 support" will work on them.
But for NV31, i'm not sure. It has to be seen what ATi can offer with RV350.

Don't forget, there'll be a refresh of NV31, that is NV36. RV350 will have to compete with that when it's out.

I don't see a problem here. After all the GeForce FX was voted best graphics hardware of 2002, now that we're in April of 2003 it's just gotten a bit old and outdated, that's all ;-)

It would make more sense for nVidia to cut the GeForce FX 5800 because ultimately, it never reached its potential -- and when the drivers mature when it does -- it'll be too late as the NV35 and R350/R400 will have already hit the market. the NV30 technology was definately excellent BUT nVidia just didn't have an alternate way to bring it to the market except in a big, hot box. Now as for the NV35, if nVidia can do it right this time and learn from their mistakes I think they'll be right back on track.
