Hi everyone,
I am experiencing segfaults when running OpenGL Games. The Games run for a little while (~5min) and then crash: Code:
Jun 22 16:58:11 vr-hunter kernel: [16849.071186] slune[9393]: segfault at 00000000004fdb7a rip 000000000048453a rsp 00007fff0854dfc0 error 7 Jun 22 17:02:53 vr-hunter kernel: [17131.162787] torcs-bin[9616]: segfault at 00000000046de000 rip 00002b9d42f9593c rsp 0000000040875fd0 error 4 ...I had to cut out some lines of the nvidia-bug-report.log due to forum size restrictions... shouldn't matter though vr |

I don't load beryl usually - it gets in the way of games. (0.2.x release isn't 1.0). When I want to show off I run beryl-manager.
The 5 minute crash could indicate a memory leak. Run the game in a window and have a console alongside running "top" sorted by memory (M). |

Perhaps you have faulty RAM?

Perhaps the kernel is eating memory and top is only showing userspace resources (I don't know).
Or perhaps it is overheating. Do the same thing with nvidia-settings displaying gpu temp. Or it could be cpu overheating. If it is faulty ram then memtest could detect it - it is often an option to run on live CDs. Which games are this? Try another based on a different engine. |

The Games were Torcs and Slune (both from the Ubuntu repo). The GPU temperature stays "normal" ~85°C and CPU is fine, too. I really don't think that it's something hardware-related as I don't have any of these problems with m$ win games...
Kernel, kernel-mod or opengl seem a probable candidates... But how to make sure? I didn't run memtest yet (takes forever) but if it was faulty ram, I'd expect the segfault to occur during a typical memory allocation process (i.e. loading the game) and not while playing.... of course you never know... ---EDIT--- Ok guys... just updated to 100.14.11 and guess what: The segfaults disappeared! Also Beryl performance seems to be slightly better (could my imagination though)... Funny because i didn't find anything in the changelog that could have explained it.... |

Good
But 85°C is actually hot - running it like that increases chances of failure. Gaming gets me to 55°C. |

Standard fans. My cpu also gets to ~55°C so it could be case airflow related. So check cpu, ambient temps. You aren't overclocking are you?
