Default Re: Microsoft now receiving 2,500 broken 360s per day in UK alone?

It's strange isn't it? I'm not disputing the problems people have been having, but I know 10 people with 360's ("real" world people) and none have had problems. Mine's 18 months old and apart for the GOW disc gettign the unreadable error every now and again and COD3 crashing, I've not had a single problem with it.

Is it luck? I dunno, I do wonder if 360's are quite fragile, and some people just mistreat them. Or whether the failures are owned by people who play them the most - having a tough job and 3 kids I don't play for hours every day, but it gets turned on everyday, I usually browse marketplace, watch a film, play a game or combinations thereof every day. When time allows I'll be playing for 5 hrs plus a day.

As it appears to be a overheating problem, I've always had the power supply and console in a comparatively "cool" area.
That said I'm sure noone's lying and some are just unfotunate, but I think a little care (whether you should have to or not) with you £250 peice of electronics wouldn't go amiss

I was about to make a thread then I saw this so I might as well post here that my fourth 360 died today. My systems are well ventilated and well taken care of but they keep dying. I have had nearly every console and none as died on me except the 360. As much as I love gaming on the 360 I don't know if I can keep doing this.

I know 4 out of 6 people who own a console that are on their 2nd or more unit. My diehard Xbox supporting friend was just like you, said it was blown out of proportion... untill his launch unit died... replaced it with an Elite, which worked only for 2 days... yup only on the internets...

Yup, 1up, IGN and Gamespot are not reputable...

If the issue wasn't so severe then why does MS always dodge the question? Hell why is the European Commissioner for Consumer Affairs requesting information about faulty X360 hardware if everything is all peachy?

There is an issue here. I love my 360 to death, but you'd have to be completely blind to not realise that there's a serious failure rate issue - almost everyone you see online who has or knows people with 360s can name at least one person they personally know who've had 360s fail. 2 of my co-workers at least have had them red ring. Another 2 haven't and have launch (or near launch) units. I'm not saying that every unit fails, but the rate of failure is incredibly high - I'd guess 25% of units or higher fails in their first year of operation (though I've no figures to back that up).

I'm thankful that in New Zealand in addition to warranties we have the Consumer Guarantees Act, which specifies that all products must last for a 'reasonable' amount of time (subject to inspection in a case by case manner). If mine does fail outside of warranty, I have a strong chance of getting a replacement for free just based on that.

Ridiculous DOES not have an 'e' in it. It comes from "ridicule" and has less than nothing to do with the colour red.

I know eight ppl personally who own 360's and I know of eight 360's that have red ringed. I have yet to meet the 360 owner who bought a 360 around release day/month that did not die within 12 months. Those that took better care of their 360s lasted longer but the failure seems inevitable.

I'll also say I know eight 360 owners and they're almost all satisfied customers b/c the repair work was done nearly free of charge. Only 1/8 was out of warrantee and the repair cost him $130 so he's not a happy camper.

Bought mine in Dec 05 as well, works fine, no problems.

1,500 to 2,500 a day.. hmm, lets look at this and put it into perspective.

There are 365 days in a year, 52 weeks. Of those 52 weeks only 5 days are work days and ups doesn't deliver on weekends so we have 260 days in a year. With 1,500 units a day that is 390,000 units per year, with the high value we have 650,000 units per year.

Now lets check numbers, http://www.nexgenwars.com/ reports that the 360 has sold 11 million console worldwide. Lets assume that 1/3rd of them were sold in the UK (which is unrealisticly high), that gives us a installed base of a little over 3.5 million. Doing a little quick division 390,000 defective units a year is a failure rate of ~11% while 650,000 is ~19%.

Now should that be true, the failure rate would be pretty high but no where even close to catastrophic. As most buisnesses go they expect failure rates on hardware between 2% and 5% or 70,000 and 175,000 respectively.

As for the guy who has had 11 consoles die.. mmm.. That is very fishy. He's probably the guy I saw a picture of who had his 360 sitting on top of his subwoofer, and when questioned said: I've got no where else to put it.
