Hi all,

I think that main problem with ATI closed source driver may a bug or something like that if everyone who aplied this and manage to make working or not ATI 2.x driver could post the following thing, I think it would be helpful for all :
- Distrib name and version
- Kernel version
- glibc version
- XFree version and if you compiled it or installed it from binaries
- XFree.0.log (from /var/log)
- XF86Config file (or XF86config-4)
- The result of testgart
I think it's really important because for exemple ATI's drivers are only packaged for glibc 2.2.x and not for 2.3.x.

Thank's to everyone who will do that, and you will see, if we all work together, we will pass trough.

Hi Birdie,

I m happy for you, but i have to that i m not the agpgart maintainer ( I don't know if you say that for me or not), I want to be clear on that point. I'm not so good in C coding to be the maintener (that's my opinion)

For all there is no log or reply on my other post.

You can find a new patch here :

http://www.epitech.net/~nonolk

It supports nforce and nforce2

Enjoy.

Ps : It seems to have a problem sometimes with agp 8x card (like radeon9700 pro and radeon9500 pro) and with some epox board.

i'm not brilliant with linux (more of a windows based person), but what version of linux will the file fglrx-src-patched.gz work with and what do I do to get it working.

I have copies of RedHat 7.3 & 8.0, Mandrake 9.0 & 9.1, Suse8.1

My system is

Epox 8RDA+ NForce2
1 GB DDR 333 (PC2700)
Athlon XP 2500+ Barton
SB Audigy
Radeon 9500 Pro
1 x 60gb ATA 100 Maxtor (Windows XP)
1 x 40gb ATA 100 Maxtor (Spare but want to use with Linux)
1 x Pioneer DVD 106S
1 x LiteOn CDRW
1 x 640U Scanner
1 x 256mb KeyDrive

Regards

Default testgart failing

I'm having problems with the fglrx driver (2.9.8), after the module being loaded, it just does exit(1).

However I think the problem lies somewhat deeper, the agpgart driver seems to load fine. Testgart doesn't show output as it should, imho:

version: 0.99
bridge id: 0x1e010de
agp_mode: 0x1f004219
aper_base: 0xe0000000
aper_size: 64
pg_total: 112384
pg_system: 112384
pg_used: 0
entry.key : 0
entry.key : 1
Allocated 8 megs of GART memory
MemoryBenchmark: 0 mb/s
MemoryBenchmark: 0 mb/s
MemoryBenchmark: 0 mb/s
Average speed: 0 mb/s
Testing data integrity (1st pass): failed on first pass!
Testing data integrity (2nd pass): failed on second pass!

So perhaps something is wrong with the GART.

My gfx is a radeon 9500 pro and the mobo an epox 8rda+.
Next to that I run debian, but that should not have much to do with it.
It's kernel 2.4.21-pre2 I'm using, with the latest patch from nonolk.
I also tried it with 2.4.21-pre5, but had no luck either.
Trying to set agp 8x to off in the bios didn't make much of a difference.

Any suggestions?

Thumbs up agpgart

it works!
i aplied the agp-patch (little modifikation of some paths) on the debian/unstable kernel 2.4.20-xfs. sound, nvnet and agp work fine.

before i tried the kernel from www.kernel.org 2.4.21-rc1-ac3, but with this kernel i got several errors ... the nvnet loads fine, but no ping cames back, when the usbmodule loads - the system messed up, the sound did not work, too. but agpgart and fglrx worked :-)).

thanks a lot.

p.s.: ~300 fps in q3@1024x768 is realy fast ;-))

my system:
abit nf7-s
athlon xp 2600+
2x512 mb ram
ati radeon 9500 np 128 mb
ibm 120 gb harddisk
debian linux (unstable version)
