Default GeForce 6800 and fan control

Hi,

as of yesterday, I am a happy owner of a GeForce 6800. First, I was suprised about the loudy fan, but then I noticed that it is not loud from the point on the proprietary NVIDIA driver is being loaded.

My problem is that when I begin to load a 3d application (Compiz, XMoto, Warcraft III etc.) the fan spins at full speed. After closing the applications, it still spins. As I do not own Windows, I do not know what the behavior is like in Windows.

Is there any way to change that the fan spins that fast from the point on a 3d application is loaded?

Thanks! Martin

You can adjust the fanspeed using nvclock, that's the only way you can do it on linux.
