Default Re: 2D rendering slowdown on suspend (NVIDIA NVS 140M, Thinkpad R61)

Thanks much, works with 2.6.22.6 and /sys/power/state s3/mem suspending
Suspend2 won't work on my laptop, but I don't think it's related to the nvidia driver.

I can confirm the new driver works fine on resume from a suspend to ram. I've still got some issues with the MEPIS 7.0 Beta - it works great after the install but crashes, with no X display, on reboot. An NVIDIA reinstall fixes all until the next reboot. I think it is a distro issue rather than an NVIDIA driver issue, however.

Thanks!

@DL1: see the Debian/Ubuntu section on http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=72490, chances are /etc/init.d/nvidia-glx is interfering with the driver installation.

I am also having the slowdown after resume problem on a Dell D630.

Graphics card: NVIDIA GPU Quadro NVS 135M (G86GL)

Driver: NVIDIA GLX Module 100.14.19 Wed Sep 12 14:48:02 PDT 2007

I don't have vbetool installed and tried suspending via
echo mem > /sys/power/state
but it was still slow upon resume.

It does run at normal speed again if I restart X. (This is a little difficult because quitting X simply turns the screen black with a cursor at the upper left, but there is no prompt and you can't type anything).

Running nvidia-settings -q all before and after suspend to ram, there is only one difference:
diff /tmp/before /tmp/after
252c252
< Attribute 'GPUCurrentClockFreqs' (D630:0.0): 400,594.
---
> Attribute 'GPUCurrentClockFreqs' (D630:0.0): 275,301.

But I don't think that's the problem, because the slowdown is several orders of magnitude.

I would sure appreciate any help on this!

I have to retract my previous post, version 100.14.19 works fine after suspend for me.

My error was that in installing the new version, I had left the older kernel module lying around, and it was loaded before the new one. I finally noticed in my syslog,

Oct 23 08:37:35 xx kernel: NVRM: API mismatch: the client has the version 100.14.19, but
Oct 23 08:37:35 xx kernel: NVRM: this kernel module has the version 100.14.09. Please
Oct 23 08:37:35 xx kernel: NVRM: make sure that this kernel module and all NVIDIA driver
Oct 23 08:37:35 xx kernel: NVRM: components have the same version.

I still find that if I suspend while running OpenGL applications, my computer spontaneously reboots on wake about every 3rd time. But if I shut down the OpenGL apps first, no problems so far.

I have been having this slowdown issue too. The strange thing is that it depends on kernel version.

I'm using 2.6.19 with suspend2 2.2.9 and it works fine with latest drivers (and even previous ones).

When using newer kernel (.22 for sure, I think it is .20 - but I'm not sure if I remember it correctly) the setup works fine with the latest driver - but after suspend, the GFX card is slowed down.

To sum it up (both tested now with nvidia drivers 100.14.23)

2.6.19 with suspend2 2.2.19 works fine after resume (no hacks needed)
2.6.22 with suspend2 2.2.10 has gfx card slowdown after resume

So the reason for this behaviour may as well lay in kernel itself, not NVIDIA drivers.

I'm have been using .23 drivers with kernels from 2.6.20 - 2.6.24 and the slowdown issue has gone completely.

It just occured with drivers before .19.
