Default Installing XP on different disk after Vista install on HD1.

How do I get this to work?

I've installed Vista a while ago, I want to dual boot it with XP now, because CMR: DiRT doesn't behave properly. What I did, is format a harddrive, put it in, and installed XP on there.

Now from there, I used EasyBCD to create a new entry in Vista's Bootloader, called Windows XP SP2, point to the drive in question, called G:\ pointing to ntldr.

Now when I restart, and select the XP option, it reboots my PC. Why?

Thanks in advance.

btw, when installing to that disk I unplugged all other drives, including my Vista drive. The only other thing that I did was reset the boot order in the Bios after plugging in the other drives.

fwiw, XP hates being loaded as the slave drive. for my linux dual boot (where my XP drive is not on my primary master) i had to issue a command to switch the order of the boot drives.

hope that helps shine a little light on a possible cause. sorry i cant be more help

Wow, here's what I did, the manual said copy boot.ini and ntdlr to the active disk (Vista) Did that, didn't work, I was like whatever, I'll try to install it with all drives plugged in.

Ran install, XP setup rebooted, then gave error, 'error reading disk!' It actually screwed up my Vista HDD!

So I had to repair my install, and I don't know how quick to formate that whole stupid XP partition. Forget it. My data is too valuable to mess around with! Yikes!

The best way to run the two in Dual, is if you have XP installed first, then install Vista afterwards.
