What is the output from running "modprobe nvidia" ?

Also note that 1.0-9639 is no longer supported for your GPU, you should be using 100.14.11.

Code:
sh: /sbin/lrm-video: not found
FATAL: Error running install command for nvidia
I remember myself using 100.14.11 and did not work on the first try (it was the only one i have to say). Im goin to try that again and report results.
That leads me to the question...What's the difference between the legacy drivers and the other ones?

This looks like a distribution specific problem; please make sure any Kubuntu NVIDIA driver packages are uninstalled. You can also try editing your `modprobe` configuration file (to remove the problematic install command).

Question Re: Kubuntu Feisty Fawn x86-64 + GeForce 7800 GS AGP 8X

I probed the 100.14.11 driver...did not work, still the same problem. I dont have installed any nvidia package from the repositories either.

How can I access the modprobe configuration file and how I have to edit it?

You'll need to contact the Ubuntu folks for assistance with this. You might also want to search this forum for "lrm-video" as many others have run into this problem, and most have found solutions or workarounds.

The legacy drivers are meant for older GPUs which are no longer supported in the newest driver release branch (100.14.xx).

You need to install the linux-restricted-modules-common package, which will provide /sbin/lrm-video

Yep, that was the trouble. I nedded the linux-restricted-modules and just installed the Nvidia 100.14.11 driver just following the instructions from the driver itself, a few nvidia-settings config and voila! The nvidia driver is working fine!
The funny thing is that everyone is saying "No nvidia anything on adept must be installed" so I uninstalled the nvidia-kernel-common, but I didnt notice the linux-restricted-modules was taken with it . So I installed again the linux-restricted-modules (and the nvidia-kernel-common came along).
Thanks to all of you people!
