Really? You were pretty die hard about AMD when you got your 6000+.

What changed your mind?

The majority of people just went from 939 to C2D and skipped AM2. I don't even know of anyone with a AM2.

By abandoning the 939 they shot themselves in the foot.
+10

I was hoping we'd see some more 939's before they went and f***ed it all up.
I probably won't be ready for an upgrade until C2Q's are obsolete so hopefully they'll get their sh!t together by then.
In the mean time, I'm not spending money on a new mobo, cpu and DDR2 for either platform.

Not too happy with the performance. Not only that, I want a C2D to see how much faster it is over my current setup. Also, this thing put out enough heat to warm my house in the winter.

Cold winter in Alabama? Really? What 60F in January?
Doc, get a C2Q (after Jul 22), so you keep the same excess heat output

i switched about 3 weeks ago. It will destroy what you have right now. I had a FX 60 oc to 2.8 and when I put my e6600 in at stock(for the few seconds it was) blew my fx 60 away. This e6600 oc to 3.6 runs cool and is so fast it's incredible i was amazed at the difference.

Here are the price drops:

At least the X2 4200 939Skt went down, makes it more appealing than a $70 3800+.

Apart from encoding, I haven't noticed any difference in speed from my single core Athlon 64 4000+ especially in games. Looks like I got swept up in the core 2 hype.

Now I'm on the other side of the fence. This pc I'm sitting on right now is my work pc with an e6600, 2GB DDR2 800 and I don't think it is any faster than my FX-60 rig. It shows a decent improvement in encoding, but it certainly doesn't blow it away at stock speeds. I just got done using some P4 2.8GHZ 1GB machines and they do get blown away.

You are crazy. I can definetly tell that my 3.0ghz Core2 kills my old 2.4ghz x2! I could tell a huge difference when both were clocked the same too.

I think I may upgrade my work PC to dual core with this cut coming.

You are just using the wrong games. I've noticed significant differences in Supreme Commander and Gothic3 between an opteron 148 and e6600 rig using the same amount of memory and the same GPU.

I think the problem lies in the fact that most people use FPSes to test "games" and in their corresponding cases you are right.
