Well Call of Duty 2 isn't any smoother than it was on the Athlon. As I have said the only thing I have noticed that's much quicker is encoding and converting 1GB winrar files. I don't play supreme commander so I wouldn't know about that.

Yep, I haven't played a single FPS where I felt the need for the C2D, but I am guessing that age is soon to be over. In '08 fast multi-cores will be a necessity for FPSers.

Do you guys feel it's a worthwhile upgrade to go from my current A64 3700+ to an Opteron 165? I'm starting to drift from PC gaming a bit, so I'm not in any hurry to overhaul the whole system, and I'm thinking that getting a dual core into my system might extend its legs a bit longer.

Single core to dual core? Absolutely. Everything feels so much more responsive etc thats what I remember when I upgraded

I'm really happy with AMD 6000+ X2. I have played games on e6600 and e6700 as well and it didn't feel any faster. I think new Intel CPUs are overhyped...

Go for it, if the chip is good you can reach 3Gigs, you´ll notice the difference at stock too

The reality is software is lagging behind CPU's. It may be different if I upgraded to an 8800, but with a 7950, I can watch my task manager (on a different monitor) while playing games and a lot of the time, the CPU stays in the 20-40% range (yeah, 50% would be 100% of one core- C2D 6600). Every once in a while you'll see something that gets as high as 60-65%, but the vast majority of games don't make a modern CPU break a sweat, either Intel or AMD. Either one is plenty fast.

I'm in the same boat as a lot of the people in this thread.

2 rigs, both with S939 x2 3800s, and I'd buy the 6000s in a heartbeat if they had S939 versions.

There's no compelling reason for me not to switch them both to Intel. My plan is to upgrade one now, and hold off on the second one for a couple of months to see how Phenom info pans out.

I just got a 3800+ 939skt for $77, not too bad for a budget deal. Maybe a little later this year, a nice 8600GT or two will play nicely with my rig . .

These price drops along with how cheap DDR2 is at the moment has convinced me to update. I will most likely get the 5600 89watt even though the 6000 is just a little more.

AMD committed a sin by abandoning 939. Now, their sin is taking toll on them. Yeap, like many ex-AMD users here, I jumped from 939 to 775 skipping AM2. And AM2 is going to be obsolete very soon, too. AMD already go through three sockets and Intel still hold on to 775. AMD should learn from this lesson and never abandon their customers this fast. Maybe then, people may come back to AMD. Until AMD can prove that, I'm sticking to Intel.
