Default remote OpenGL impossible ?

Hello,

As the Linux sysadmin in our company, I am posting on behalf of our graphic developer :

we are developing a CAD software using OpenGL 2.0 (it's developed using Java and Jogl) ; locally on a 64-bits RHEL4 with some NVIDIA card the display is correct. I tried to get the display remotely (through ssh -X connection), on RHEL4 32-bits with a GeForce 7600 GS and the driver 100.14.11, and we get errors such as :

"Error: no OpenGL buffer object appears to be bound to target 0x8892"

"Error while compiling a shader : Shader : null"

Do you have any hint ?

Best regards

This depends heavily on which OS, GPU & OpenGL libraries you have on the client side when running ssh. You didn't state what you're using, so its not possible to comment. Also, please generate and attach an nvidia-bug-report.log from the system with the problem, along with the output from glxinfo.

thanks,
Lonni

If you bothered to read his post, you would see that he uses:
RHEL 4 on two computers -- on is a 64 bit and one is a 32 bit processor. Since they use Java, that likely means he's running it on x86 machinery (since java on other platforms is really a joke, and nvidia doesn't provide the lastest drivers for Linux on anything but x86's).

He is using the nvidia drivers -- specifically 100.14.11 -- on the client. He did not say what he used on the sever (but I could imagine that it's not important).

There you go -- everything you needed, was right in his original post.

But to answer his question: Yes, it is very much so possible to do remote OpenGL, but perhaps not with nvidia's drivers -- although I have no problem doing this. It might be a problem with jogl or java.

oh well, if much more accurate informations on the client machine can help, here they are (I apologize for cluttering this thread) :

OS: RHEL 4 (RedHat Enterprise Linux)
kernel : 2.6.9-55.0.2.ELhugemem
xorg-x11-6.8.2-1.EL.18

the OpenGL libraries should be the ones from the NVidia driver, as I did not get any error message during its installation, and did not update xorg-x11-Mesa-libGL (I fell once in this trap, it's enough !)

grasso,
Is this error only present when running your application, and no other OpenGL applications?

Hello,

So far, glxgears works perfectly - but I would need another OpenGL application requiring shaders so that the test is meaningful - and I don't have/know such applications - if you know any, this could help

I just downloaded the following demo

http://www2.autistici.org/encelo/dow..._pointz.tar.gz

from the page

Encelo's Projectz - Programming - OpenGL Demos and Tests
http://www2.autistici.org/encelo/prog_gldemos.php

this demo contains shaders

if I compile and execute it locally, it works correctly; as soon as I try to execute it remotely, it fails immediately with the error message :

Missing extensions for OpenGL Shading Language!

so it seems, as I feared, that this operation mode is not available remotely
