Hello Ladies and Gentelmen,
Brief history of my problem. Bought a new hp dv9317cl laptop. Crashed vista in two weeks. Reinstall trashed my LFS partitions. Installed Debian Etch. Had trouble getting the gui to work. Had to install the driver via the nvidia installer because I couldn't get the debian way to work. Read on the nvidia site that my hardware is supproted by the legacy driver. It is not listed as supported by the current one. The graphics is NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150. Could someone please confirm what driver I should use. After using NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9639-pkg1.run to install everything worked fine, the gui came up with full resolution. Then the process of resolving an unrelated issue I installed the 2.6.21-2 kernel and when I tried to reinstall the driver I met a stone wall. When I try to uninstall the driver the log contains Code:
Validating previous installation: -> The previously installed file '/lib/modules/2.6.21-2-amd64/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.ko' has a different checksum (843858607) than when it was installed (1529236971). /lib/modules/2.6.21-2-amd64/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.ko will not be uninstalled. system debian lenny 64 amd turion64x2 Any thoughts? Thanks |
