there already is one, it replaces a user's post with a message saying "this user is blocked" or something to that effect.

how about the Powersupply issues ? did you think is
a smart choice buying a good 400+watts +new power for $100-$200 dollars ,the radeon9700 for $400 .?
Do you remember the launch of the oringal GF? How many issues they had one some AMD systems. Turned out those mobos were not following specs. Now we have the same thing with some of the power supplies not being able to maintaine their 12/5 volt ratings. Funny sounds like the same issue here. Ironic no?

How much power do you think NV30 will use? 120 million transitors, with a target clock rate of 400 mhz... .13 doesn't reduce power consumption enough to compensate for all of this.

If Radeon 9700 needs more power with 107 million transistors and 325 mhz clock speed, you can bet NV30 will as well. Maybe you should be thankful ATi is breaking in the market for this new problem. Oh, and if you say that nvidia will go with external (i.e. wall) power, think again...

Nv40

before you knock it try it.

that's my motto for hardware and it has worked well, didn't end up spending alot of money, kept my 8500 and sold the 4200 and 4400.

Just try it man then you can bitch if you don't like it. It a logical fallacy, example, "hey my brother doesn't like rice crispies, so I don't like them either."

P.S.

All your buddies did clean installs of for their cards right?

Because if they didn't then that was their problem not ati's drivers.

Just for your info, I've used tnt2, g2gts, g2mx400, g4ti4200 and g4ti4400 and have had major infinite loop problems, bsods, and games simply not working correctly without tweaks, like ds, gc, and tribes2. so in my opinion ati has better drivers and cheaper and faster cards with more features. Take that joint and smoke it.

The thing that gets me the most about all this is when NVIDIA MSRP's the GeForce4 at $400, the fanATIcs cry foul. When ATI does it, the fanATIcs say, wow only $400! I'll take 3! (gross exaggeration but it gets the point across)

Ironic, no?

Well the issue here is performance. The 9700 more than doubles, tripples, x4 the perfromance of ATIs last card, the 8500 in some settings. The GF4 did not provide for as great of a leap over the GF3 Ti 500. Yes in some cases it as much faster than the older GF3 cards but not by the same margins we are seeing here. Then factor in MSRP != the price you can get it for on-line. The place I bought mine has dropped them to $322 including shipping....

For me $400 is too much. But $338 to almost tripple what my 8500/GF4 Ti4200 can do is a no brainer

I want the R300 to make my pr0n collection vids @ 320x240 look better and to play new games as well as old. Has Ati said to fix that 16bpp no AA thing? (yes I still play Final Fantasy 7)

I remember back in the early 90's the Diamond Stealth 64 that used the S3 Vision 964 chip and had 4MB of VRAM was around $500.

The Vision 864, a cheaper version that had I think 2MB of RAM went for much less, around $250-$300.

So, $400 for a top-of-the-line video card is not anything new in the world of PCs. Actually, for what you get, it's quite cheap, based off certain reference points!

*EDIT*: edited stealth -> stealth 64
