Issues with new 8600 GTS on Gentoo Linux

Note: I had been using the stable drivers before, still had trouble, so I tried the beta ones.

I don't see the driver installer log in your bug report, so its unclear how you installed the driver, however whatever method you used doesn't appear to have worked correctly.

I just emerged it...where does the installer script dump its log to?

It looks like the gentoo ebuild didn't install libwfb.so, which is needed for newer cards. Try using the official installer, or report this to the ebuild maintainer.

In the meantime, you should be able to do:

ebuild /usr/portage/x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers/nvidia-drivers-100.14.11.ebuild unpack

, where '/usr/portage/x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers/nvidia-drivers-100.14.11.ebuild' is the location of the ebuild you're trying to install, and then copy libwfb.so (or libnvidia-wfb.so) from the corresponding directory in /var/tmp/portage to /usr/lib/xorg/modules/libwfb.so, e.g.:

cp /var/tmp/portage/x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-100.14.11/work/NVIDIA-
Linux-x86_64-100.14.11-pkg2/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libnvidia-wfb.so.100.14.11 /usr/lib/xorg/modules/libwfb.so
