Yes, Quicktime is horrible. Slow, buggy, very unsecure. When installing it, it will put itself into Startup folder, QuickLaunch bar, Desktop icon, without asking. Truly horrible stuff.

I would *recommend* at least 1GB for any OS. This has nothing to do with Microsoft specifications / requirements. 1GB = Windows XP, 2GB = Windows Vista x86, 4GB = Windows Vista x86. Not bad, when you consider we are going from 2001 to 2007. Of course, you can run any OS on 256-512MB of RAM, but who would do it in 2007?

i mean were all enthusiasts here, so of course we are trying to squeeze as much as we can out of these things. but look at what linux can do with minimal resources. is it any wonder that MS's software got labeled as bloatware? (Apple btw, is even worse with memory from what i hear).

I don't have $2K speakers or headphones so MP3s and AACs sound just fine. Throw in iTunes' EQ and songs sound amazing.

Yes, iTunes works same slow sucky way on both Windows and OS X.
Seriously, what is wrong with iTunes? All iTunes does is organize music, play music, transfer music to your iPod quickly/easily and allow you to surf around in the iTunes Music Store. If you are an audiophile and only have (insert file format here) songs, then there are other programs for that.

Release 10.0 and 10.1 was the most unstable OS in computer history, it crashed every minute, 10.2 was crashing every second minute... And release 10.4 is not much better.
I've been using 10.3 and 10.4. No crashes or problems. Ya know, I really think you are a MS employee getting paid of every troll/fanboy word that comes out of your mouth. I hate to break it to ya, but MS no where near perfect. Do me a favor and I quote "Get your tongue out of MS' ass" (ViN86). If you can't contribute to this thread PROPERLY, then don't bother posting.

Do you know how many people are still running 256MB RAM? I'd say at least half of US PC users still run 512MB! Not everybody is an enthusiast like us on the forums, most are just average users that just check email and surf pr0n. My aunt just upgraded her PC after 5+ years of use. She was running one of the first Celerons with 128MB RAM on Windows XP, then upgraded to a Gateway with 1GB RAM and Core 2 Duo Celeron with Vista. I have Vista with 1GB and I know for a fact that I need at 2GB RAM so my machine isn't maxed out all the time.

So what? Vista is not aimed at old PCs. And new ones hardly sell with less than 1GB, which is ok for Vista (although I would recommend 2GB, as we are on nvnews.net)

In fact, many new PCs, including notebooks, have 2GB by default.

It is stupid to blame Microsoft that new OS has plenty of new features taking more RAM. Just buy more RAM, or stay (on your old PC) with the old OS.. My 8 year old daughter is running passively cooled 65nm Celeron @ 3.2GHz, 1GB RAM, 7600GS GPU, and has XP on it. I did not even consider purchasing and installing Vista for her, but I will when buying a new computer.

Here's the question: Why couldn't the almighty MS add these "new features" without having to have 2GB in order to run them properly? Vista does waste hardware resources IMO. I don't think that a fresh install with all upgrades should idle with 512MB+ RAM taken.

Vista x86 does not take more than 300-400MB, based on configuration. But you need at least 1GB to run other apps as well

Why does my machine take up 52-55% (that's more than 512) just on a fresh install + updates?
