Default Re: Problem with GeForce 3 and 96.39 Driver

I installed driver with this command:

sudo NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9639-pkg1.run

I have read all of the sticky posts, and follow their instructions.
I've included description of the problem, attached needed files and searched the forum for same problem.

What else I have to do to get your help?

I found and tried these options:

Option "NvAGP" "0"
Option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "DFP, TV"
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "CRT"
Option "UseDisplayDevice" "DFP".

Did you verify that you're using the latest motherboard BIOS?

I am not using the latest version.. I got the BIOS from... 2001 i think. I've never updated it.
Nvidia Driver 7185 works without the latest motherboard BIOS. Does version 9639 need it?

So, is updating my motherboard BIOS the only way? I'd like to not doing it, because I am afraid that I can damage my motherboard.

Updating to the latest released motherboard BIOS is the only way to debug this problem further.

Hi again.

I've got latest BIOS for my motherboard (ftp://ftp.shuttle.com/BIOS/av18/V3.1/) and have got still the same problem. On linux my X-server hangs, on MS Windows XP I see a blue screen during driver instalation.

For information in case it helps:

I have two PC's each with a GeForce 3 Ti 200 installed (different brands).

I had no problems at all installing and using the NVIDIA graphics drivers as soon as I started to use the Driver version 96.43.01.

I have used this with Linux kernels 2.6.21.5, 2.6.23.1 and currently 2.6.23.8.

Bill.

I have been using 96.39 driver with different versions of kernel, and always had same problem. I couldn't find solution for my problem, so I've changed video card. Now, I have got NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 and NVIDIA-Linux-x86-100.14.19-pkg1.run driver. Everything works ok - no problems. I think it was because of video card. netlama, toods, thank you for the help.
