100.14.11 does not compile on Debian Etch 64

Compile failed originally using kernel 2.6.18.3 with a message that nvidia.ko couldn't be loaded due to a miss match with the compiler. Built new kernel 2.6.22 now it fails with the following:-

I have as suggested in the error log run 'make oldconfig && make prepare on the kernel sources' with no effect.

Also experimented with the patch in http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=95296 on the assumption it is not working so it can't get worse. The compile progresses further now but still fails.

This is all a bit over my head really so any advice would be most welcome first time I have even tried to build a kernel so could have done something stupid.

1.0-8776 is no longer supported, and isn't expected to work with recent kernels. Please upgrade to the latest driver which supports your GPU.

I'm an idiot been a long day though. Downloaded the newest drivers and then went and installed the old drivers that have been sitting there for months no wonder it didn't work. There is however a new problem now with not found libraries, but we are a lot closer than before. Will look at it tomorrow when I am awake and if I need more help will ask. Thanks for pointing out my stupid error.
