Default 32 or 64 bit?

Hi,

For those who've been using pure debian for a while, can I expect many compatibility issues, like with flash, on 64bit?

If so, what are your thoughts on 32bit vs 64 stability and speed wise?

Thanks in advance.

I've never used Debian before, but I am currently downloading the 64-bit version of Kubuntu (Fiesty Fawn) 7.04. Wonder if I'll encounter any errors as well...

evilghost suggested I just give pure debian a shot, see what I thought of it.
Appearance wise, it looks about identical to ubuntu. Functionality wise...not one single glitch, stability problem or complaint other than configuring (attempting to) software that isn't supported in 64 bit linux yet, like flash.

I would pass that suggestion on to you. Best suggestion for linux anyone has given me yet.

Look for the "netinst.iso". Only a 160mb dl to install a minimal system, which then dl's everything else from the server you choose. gatech is a good one.

Redeemed, I think you will like kubuntu. I use the 64-bit, and I do not have any probelms at all.

I did have a problem with a conflict with my 8800, but I fixed that. I don't know if you will have the same problem, but shoot me a pm if you have any questions after install.

I've used it before buddy.

I'm pretty comfortable with the GUI in Kubuntu... still got to figure some things out though...

Before I wasn't running the 64-bit version. Here's hoping I have good luck.

Lol! Looking forward to it. Hope you know how to barbecue. I've been known to eat entire cows.

You liked kubuntu, you'll love debian pure. I just installed the 32 bit sid and so far it's jsut what I wanted. Just have a bit of tweaking to do.

I've got 32 bit pretty much set up now. Page rendering is a little jumpy, but I had that in 64 also, haven't played with settings yet.

Smooth? Every bit as 64, very sweet OS. this may become my primary soon, with vista (or XP) retired to gaming and work apps only.

Let me know your thoughts DD, when your set.

Meh....it's not as good as kubuntu...but I'll kick the tires around a little more.

I don't like that I don't have different consoles (or is there another way to get the than 'CTRL+ALT+Fx'?)

I don't have sound (yet)

I'll see what else is going on....

You mean different terminals? I've got at least three I think off the default install. Run level can be edited in /etc/inittab, if that's what you mean.

I don't see a soundcard in your sig, but 'alsaconf' will usually handle that duty, although alsa will see most newer cards as audigy 2s.
