I have a GeForce2 Go (32MB) in my laptop and with Ubuntu Feisty the Nvidia driver causes random freezes. I've tried just about every kernel parameter like noapic nolapic etc. without any success. Though I've found out this isn't limited to Ubuntu, but most other distros I've tried have the same problem. Sabayon, Fedora, Suse, and there's many more. One of the exceptions being Ubuntu Dapper. Here's what I've tried out
Ubuntu Dapper+9631=No Freezing Ubuntu Edgy+8776=Freezes Ubuntu Edgy+9631=Freezes Ubuntu Feisty+9631=Freezes Ubuntu Feisty+9639=Freezes Ubuntu Gutsy+9631=Freezes The fact that the 9631 driver works perfectly fine on Dapper but none of the others makes me want to believe this isn't a driver problem. But I'm not sure. The freezes seem to be random, but I've found a way to reproduce them by rapidly changing the wallpaper. I'm not using Beryl or any type of compositing because if I do, it just freezes up even easier. I've checked all the logs and I can't seem to find anything. When it freezes it's completely frozen. Mouse and keyboard do not respond to any input. I've done some searching and it seems I'm not the only one with this problem. Can anyone help me out? Oh I see. I'll see what I can come up with.
But I can't run the nvidia-bug-report.sh if the computer is frozen.=/ |

I have the exact same problem. Hardware is a Dell Inspiron 2650 (Geforce2 Go 32MB), running Kubuntu Feisty.
I also tried the older 7xxx driver, but I couldn't even get into X with that one. |

Ok. I've got something. I was able to get to a tty after a freeze. I'm not sure how I did that, never been able to before. With this one I'm using the 9639 but I don't think it matters as it's still freezing exactly the same as the 9631 driver.

FuturePilot,
Does setting NvAGP to 0 in xorg.conf help? |
