Default Re: GeForce2 Go + 9631 driver=freezing

Anyone else have any ideas? Or do I need to buy a new laptop? There's seriously nothing wrong with this laptop. Ubuntu runs great except for this problem. All hardware detected and everything.

As I Mentioned to you by directing you to the above post I had a very similar problem with more than one computer, you need to follow the steps that are outlined on my post on the gentoo forums, you can disregard the parts about your kernel configuration as you are using a distro kernel but you MUST do the xorg part with the X -configure and go through your xorg.log and be sure that it starts without ANY!!!!!!!!! errors or warnings, also Im not sure how you installed your nvidia-driver but my strongest reccomendation is to use the official installer from nvidia and NOT the one from your distro for all debian based distros, yes you will need to reinstall the driver each time you either update kernel or xorg but to me it seems to be the most stable way. This is usually related to mistakes regarding your mouse or keyboard inputs or modules not existing, a sample xorg.conf is listed in that post.

Thanks. I will give that a try. Right now I have the driver installed with the official Nvidia installer.

I noticed some of these
Code:
NVRM: Xid (0001:00): 8, Channel 00000000
in my system logs after the freezes. Don't know exactly what these mean.

Lightbulb Re: GeForce2 Go + 9631 driver=freezing

Just a little update. I have tried the latest 9643 driver and the problem is still there. However, disabling powernowd has eliminated the freezing. So this has something to do with a conflict with the driver and CPU scaling.
