What does the setting "Force Global Lighting" do? Is it just like it sounds and makes everything brighter? lol

It imrpoves performance, as there's less/no dynamic lights then.

Turn it off for better visuals, on for better performance.

ive been using vista for a while now and have been playing bioshock in dx10 on it. the whole reason i switched to vista is for dx10 gaming and how its supposed to make things more efficient and faster, etc. well last night i tried bioshock on my xp boot. wow. its so much smoother its ridiculous. and curiously, it was different. i heard different things happen, i saw different things happen, etc. like for instance, the guy who gets thrown through the window by a big daddy in the demo, he had no items on him in dx10/vista, but in xp he did have items on him. wtf? there were a few things like this. and i heard way more stuff being said, and sound effects. very odd. but of course the biggest thing was the framerate seemed like DOUBLE the speed.

that part MAY have been because they disable a lot of the controls when the cutscenes happen and i checked too soon, but there was tons of other odd differences. also i had to edit the .ini file to get my key config correct and during the cutscene it also disables my jump, and my right strafing. very annoying..

Its odd you say this because minus the items I experience significantly better performance on Vista than on my XP boot. Only major difference was I could run AA on the xp version without errors.

I got a pistol and some other stuff from that guy. Can't comment on XP speed. Have canned it already
My only grip is no AA on Vista

thx
you mean 1680x1050? If so then yes. If not then that may be a bit low. I have a similar system:
e6600, 8800GTS 320 (slightly OC'd), 2g ram pc6400
1680x1050 usually runs around 45~fps average
