hi all, i'm new to this forum, and i have a question, which i'm sure you've all heard before.....well here goes, i'm looking at the nVIDIA GeForce 6200 LE 512MB i'm just wondering why it is so cheap, 50 to 60 dollar range, i'm looking to play things like flight simulator X, WOW, the sims etc on my computer, i'm just curious if this would be sufficient to use a good bit of the graphics that are available on these games
thanks joe |

I'd probably have to suggest getting at least a 6800GT, if possible.
What's the specs on your computer? What kind of budget? |

Same concerns here, you're going to be playing on minimum settings, perhaps even with a 6800. I'd recomend staying within the $100 to $200 range, but I don't know your budget.

the only number i know to look for is the 512mb when looking for a card....income taxes are coming up so that's a help with a budget so probably 200.....or so, but basically as far as the system goes, its a dell that my wife bought 3 years ago now that i bought her a mac laptop this year for xmas i figured i'd try to do something where we could play games only on it and leave off all the other extra media such as music etc....anyway the comp is a dell 4600i PNTM 4 2.66 ghz w/512 of ram, it's got that parallel ram stuff where you have to put in two modules of ram, so the video card in it now is a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 128mb and a new 200 gb hd i just bought because the other hd crashed other than that not much to say about it, i know i need to buy a dvd drive for it though, since some games are on dvd format disk now but thanks for any help

3 things...
1) Don't worry about the 512MB of memory on a video card. Be more concerned with pipes & core clocks. That extra 256 on the card isn't going to make that big of a difference. 2) Upgrade your comp's RAM to at least 1GB. That'll help with games, and other stuff, quite a bit. 3) I take it your system is AGP? Hell, for $200 you should be able to get in the low 7 series cards and if you can, they beat the 6 series all to hell. Maybe like a 7300 or 7600, if they make 'em in AGP, which I belive they do. Uh, yeah. I'd stay away from the 6 series, man, especially since you have a $200 budget. Yes, you're running AGP if your currently running a 5200. Man, the difference you would see...

thanks alot, with the 7 series is there a certain mb that i need to look for or just 256 will work fine, i know the 128 is a bit choppy at times, but i'm guessing a jump from 5 to 7 series like you said will be a drastic improvment
well thanks for all you help man joe |

Yeah, stick with 256. 512MB cards are rare anyways and like I said, doesn't make that big of difference. Good luck, man. Keep us updated on what you get.

Also, don't forget that your computer system only has 512 megabytes of ram.
When you start cranking up features, you will really want to have more ram. 1 gigabyte of ram would be a reasonable amount for the type of system you have. Overall system performance will also improve if you upgrade. Gentle |
