I have a G5 mouse too and you should be able to get it where you want it with the dpi settings.

Let me clarify what mouse acceleration is. It is not the same thing as mouse sensitivity.

Mouse acceleration is used to determine how far the mouse cursor should move when taking into consideration the relative speed you are moving your mouse - in other words, if you move your mouse halfway across your mouse pad slowly, with acceleration on, it will barely register a movement. But if you move your mouse the same distance on the pad very quickly, your cursor will shoot across the entire screen rapidly. It's sort of nice for desktop navigation, but in games it completely undermines the purpose of using a mouse - precision. Because the movement is tied to the relative speed you move your mouse, slow movements will cause small changes in your point of view while fast movements will cause large movements (sometimes doing 360 degree turns or more).

Obviously in a tense game such as an FPS, this can make your aiming extremely difficult as the precision is extremely inconsistent. Now, most games do not force mouse acceleration on for this reason, or have an option to turn it off. BioShock does not have this option available.

Again, changing DPI settings and mouse sensitivity has nothing to do with mouse acceleration.

Honestly this along with the horrendous screen tearing (unless you enable framerate-crippling VSync), lack of triple buffering support, and an unalterable config file, is making me lean towards getting the 360 version and just forgetting about the PC as a gaming platform, as companies no longer seem to care.

Ingame it is extremely imprecise because of the acceleration. This is an issue that should not exist.

This game was clearly developed for the X-Box 360 with the PC version cobbled together as an afterthought. Even the save game dialog says "Saving, don't turn off your machine!".
If you have setpoint installed, check the "setpoint implementation" and "OS implementation" acceleration settings. I messed with these and it removed the mouse acceleration from my games in Vista.

Try setting it to "setpoint implementation" and THEN disabling acceleration on the mouse movement tab. I think thats what I did. I also have game detection enabled and all other check boxes on that screen checked (except "keep other button assignments").

Hope that helps.

I'm actually running XP, would that work for XP also? I don't even have Setpoint installed right now, since half my mouse buttons don't work in WoW when it's installed.

Hmm...

If you're in XP I don't know.

Have you tried the mouse acceleration registry fix thats been floating around for a while?

Let me see if I can find it...

EDIT: Here, try pasting this into a .reg file and running it.

Quote:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse]
"SmoothMouseXCurve"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00 ,a0,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,40,\
01,00,00,00,00,00,00,80,02,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,05 ,00,00,00,00,00
"SmoothMouseYCurve"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,66 ,a6,02,00,00,00,00,00,cd,4c,\
05,00,00,00,00,00,a0,99,0a,00,00,00,00,00,38,33,15 ,00,00,00,00,00
Reboot after you do it.

That used to be an old XP trick to get rid of mouse acceleration in lots of games.

Well, I tried to add it to the registry but got an error message saying you have to import binary values from within the editor, and when I went to do that, it said it would delete all the other sub-keys from the Mouse key, which sounded bad so I didn't.

I tried installing SetPoint and now the control is even worse.

One hour left b/f I can go home and play

Or more exactly, go home and start installing...
