3.7 DX10 Issues --------------- If you experience graphics corruption or stability issues on Windows Vista using ATi DirectX 10 hardware (eg Radeon HD 2xxx), please launch the game in DirectX 9 mode. This is done by right clicking the Bioshock icon in the game explorer and selecting "Play-DirectX9". |

---------------------------------------------------------- Add " -dx9mode" to the targetbox of your Bioshock shortcut. It should read something like this: "X:\Games\BioShock Demo\Builds\Release\Bioshock.exe" -dx9mode Now force AntiAliasing Compatibility-Mode "00000045: Rainbow Six Vegas" in nHancer and set your desired FSAA mode. This should work, but the drawback is, no dx10... ------------------------------------------------------------- I'll have to see if it works when I get home now. ![]() |

I played through to the Dentist area after installing the game last night and it does get better than the demo, thankfully. The lack of AA is annoying, but the DX10 effects are nice to look at. I swapped back and forth from DX9 to DX10 mode a few times to make sure I was really seeing a difference. Mainly I see improvements to the water and shadows with DX10.
Gameplay still for some reason reminds me of Psycho Circus "http://pc.ign.com/objects/011/011646.html" It was a crazy game. Overall, while still over hyped, its a fun game and offers a fair amount of challenges. Those crazed dentists are nuts. I feel like I'm in an insane asylum. Well...off to play some more.

OK well I played quite a bit last night and despite my annoyance at the game's technical problems (apparently the 2K PC development team is on vacation so it'll be a while before we get them fixed), after I had it set up I was amazed at how well it actually does live up to the hype. The gameplay itself is sort of arcade-style in a way seeing as how there is practically no penalty for death and you can experiment will different plasmid and weapon combinations, though frankly my favorite (and most effective) still is the electro bolt / wrench combo.
I really do think all the rave reviews were spot on with the praise of the game's atmosphere. It really does draw you in and the city of Rapture does indeed feel alive. Most of that has to do with the fantastic level design, but the radio messages, enemy dialog, ambient sound, etc really thickens the atmosphere quite a bit. I enjoy the encounters with the Little Sisters and Big Daddies a lot, especially since my decision to save the Sisters has already paid off quite a bit (won't spoil it for you guys but suffice it to say, you are indeed rewarded, though to what extent in the future I don't know). Amusingly enough I'm playing the game in a non-native resolution and 4:3 ratio (1280x960) since I want a solid 60 FPS and the graphics and artwork look so good I can't even tell it's a lower resolution. The control feels a lot better with a 4:3 aspect ratio, which I think is a result of the FOV. Anyway, I'm no longer regretting my PC purchase as eventually I was able to cope with the forced mouse acceleration. Ken Levine has already acknowledged the widescreen problem and there is hope the mouse problems can be fixed - I will put aside my technical misgivings and go ahead and say this game probably does live up to the hype. I'm looking forward to finishing it so I can say for sure. ![]()

I've had no technical problems with Bioshock(outside of the FOV, which dosen't bother me). Performance and stability are fanstastic.
I didn't get to play untill after mid-night folllowing a 12h shift....I only got through about as much as the demo showed and wasn't feeling it for the game. BUT, I snuck a few hours in this morning with me wide awake and I'm totally sucked in. The level design of Rapture is unbelievable, I want to explore every inch. The story is unfolding perfectly....Tension of feeling trapped in an insane and dangerous world is freaky, I've had afew "jump" moments already(haven't had those since SS2 ). I've got no complaints....It feels so good to finally be playing a (PC)game that is on the technical edge, outstandingly designed, runs as smooth as silk and is a total blast to play. Thanks 2K B\A ![]()

I can't wait for the 9 series cards. This is finally a game that I can't keep a minimum of 60-75 FPS to match VSync
I don't know how you people can says 30 FPS is "smooth as butter" Anyone else have a problem with VSync turning itself off after closing the game and opening it back up again?

So many noobs now a days just overclock their CPU's to the moon and back yet fail to ever run any stress test for stability and then they blame Nvidia and other pieces of software for their problems ![]() |

My screen or FOV seems to "twitch", and it happens every 10 seconds or so. Anybody else seeing this? Its like the sides are being pressed in toward the middle just a bit.
