Fresh install of Redhat 8.0, latest nvidia drivers. Apparent kernel panics. Everything stops, keyboard lights flash. I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for in the logs, but could this be something:
Apr 10 22:05:29 localhost kernel: SCSI cdrom error : host 0 channel 0 id 0 lun 0 return code = 28000000 Apr 10 22:05:29 localhost kernel: Current sd0b:00: sense key Hardware Error Apr 10 22:05:29 localhost kernel: Additional sense indicates Logical unit communication CRC error (Ultra-DMA/32) Apr 10 22:05:29 localhost kernel: I/O error: dev 0b:00, sector 820852 There's a couple of HUNDRED lines like that in a row in a couple of places in the log (/var/log/messages). The sector value at the end changes each time. There's also these: Apr 10 22:10:45 localhost kernel: SCSI cdrom error : host 0 channel 0 id 0 lun 0 return code = 28000000 Apr 10 22:10:45 localhost kernel: Current sd0b:00: sense key Hardware Error Apr 10 22:10:45 localhost kernel: Additional sense indicates Logical unit communication CRC error (Ultra-DMA/32) According to the logs, there are 15 or 20 of each of these errors PER SECOND when they're occuring. Is this something that's normal? I'll check the log again if it crashes and try to find exactly where it does so. |

A description of my hardware might help, huh?
![]() AMD K6-2 - 500Mhz 188MB RAM PNY GeForce 420MX latest display drivers Is there anyplace where Linux keeps a record of all the hardware installed on a system? That would make this much easier. |

/proc gives you a lot of info about your hardware
![]() Sounds like a kernel problem...are you using the RedHat kernels or a custom compile? If you are using RedHat's, check if there is a update rpm from them. The latest for RedHat 8 is kernel-2.4.18-27.8.0 |
