Default Upgrading speaker wire

Hi guys ^^

I have recently decided to extend the length of my speaker cables. In town today I saw some wire for sale and purchased without question.

Is the wire thick enough etc? Will there be to much noise???

cheers

Standard wire

New stuff

Speakers in question are the Creative Gigawork G500 5.1 THX

cheers

Also, does anyone have a good link for the placement of 5.1 speakers?

Room is shaped triangular at the top and is around 3 meteres by 6 meters long.

It will hopefully be focused for one person

cheers

Hi,

You can get some information using this java applet

Is the thickness of the cable listed on the bill?

the original stuff is un doubtly thicker stuff, and is comprised of loads of strands.

This one is thinner and is one solid stand.

will this stuff be ok?

Coaxial cable, mostly due to it's RF suppression qualities.

Something like RG-58 would be ideal.

In the pic is higher quality stuff, it's using copper braids with a copper core instead of aluminum.

@ Evilghost

Keep in mind that he wants wires for a Gigawork G500 5.1 THX. I don't think that it's very adequate to use high quality cables for a pc-set.

To give a rough hint on wire diameters:

<10m --> 1,5mm˛
<20m --> 2,5mm˛
>20m --> 4mm˛

Also, don't get crazy about the wires. Make sure you don spin them around a power cable or similar conductors. How long will the cables be?

RG-58 is pretty cheap here in the US, likely cheaper than decent grade speaker wire. Copper's gone up by a ton, he may be able to get away with aluminum core/shielding and still have good audio fidelity.
