Unhappy XFree86 4.01 & PciInfo.h

Hi,

I'm running Xfree86 version 4.01 on my Mandrake 7.2 system. If downloaded the tarballs and installed eveything as supposed to. When I start x, it exits with the message it has found a proper setup, but it can't write the proper info to PciInfo.h

I cannot find this file, so I'd like to ask if anyone using Mandrake 7.2 or higher could give me his/her file or complete path to it, so I can create a file.

I find the X-installation very strange though, because it has both version 3.x and 4.01 next to each other. When I run Xconfigurator, it wants version 3.x style servers...

cheers,

Roel Baardman (Holland)

You will need to upgrade to a new version of xfree86. MDK 7.2 used a strange mixture of xfree86 3.x and 4.x. The nvidia drivers won't work on this.

Perhaps it is even a good time to upgrade to a new distro version.

But to what distro then?

My Linux Mandrake 8.0 still uses the same mixture...

Anyway, I think I'm going to build a Linux From Scratch.....so I can just get my own source-codes and compile myself a full 4.x version of Xfree86

cheers,

Roel

If you want some linux from scratch like distro consider the use of gentoo. It basicly is a lfs distro using a package system. Every package you download needs to be compiled ...

Could you please tell me the technical datails about the module/driver for X, because I am in the process of writing my own fbdev-based X-clone and I'd like to be able to support your driver.

I also would like to know if there is a good fb-driver available wich I could use instead of the X-driver.

cheers,

Roel

(Voel je vrij om in het Nederlands te antwoorden, dat is voor ons allebei een stuk makkelijker denk ik :-)
