Unhappy Twinview works, but dual screen does not

Hi

I have a nVidia Corporation G70 [GeForce Go 7600] (rev a1) on a Toshiba Satellite P100 notebook

If I configure my X in twinview mode (with a LCD monitor connected to my VGA port), all works fine.

If I use dual screen mode, my built-in LCD works, but the attached LCD does not turn on. The screen is logically enabled, as I can move the mouse 'into' the screen, but it is not visible, since the monitor is off.

I have attached config files and X logs.

Can anyone help?

I have attached nvidia-bug-report, if that is what you are referring to.

Please note: I am using display 7, not display 0, so I have attached the log Xorg.7.log as well

File Type: bz2 Xorg.7.log.bz2 (14.0 KB, 80 views)

Your bug report indicates that Twinview is enabled, not separate X screens. Please note that only one X server per GPU is supported.

The bug report includes my Xorg.0.log, but I was testing on :7, so I attached the Xorg.7.log instead.

I will rerun bug-report with only dual screen running on display 0

Thanks for the input so far

Attached is a new bug-report.log

Please tell me if you see anything to indicate why my external screen does not turn on.

According to your bug report, the 1400x900 mode that you're requesting fails to validate:

(II) NVIDIA(0): Assigned Display Device: CRT-0
(II) NVIDIA(0): Requested modes:
(II) NVIDIA(0): "1400x900"
(WW) NVIDIA(0): No valid modes for "1400x900"; removing.
(WW) NVIDIA(0):
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Unable to validate any modes; falling back to the default mode
(WW) NVIDIA(0): "nvidia-auto-select".

1440x900 is a valid mode.

Oops - in my many rounds of testing, I must have introduced a typo there.

I have attached a new bug-report with the mode correct in the config file. The screen still does not turn on.

Hi Zirafarafa,
Your attached bug report still lists 1400x900 instead of 1440x900.

[Edit: It looks like nvidia-auto-select is defaulting to 1440x900, so if that isn't working for your monitor, you'll have to use something else. 1440x900 is listed as your monitor's preferred mode, so the fact that it's not working is strange.]

Ok - here is the 'correct' report

In addition, I have found the following:

If I run xset -dpms on the visible screen, the second monitor turns on.

This implies that the X server starts up with the second display in dpms power save mode.

Any reasons for this?

That's weird. I suppose it could be a bug in your X server. Where did you get it? Also, I just noticed that you're using 100.14.09. Does the problem still reproduce with 100.14.11?
