Hi
I really hope some of the experts here can help me with a major problem I'm having that so far seems unanswerable. I own two machines of similar but differing specs - one is a single AMD 2600XP CPU, 1.5Gb RAM and the other is a dual processor with two Intel Xeon 1.7Ghz CPU's and 2Gb of RAM with a 10,000rpm 150Gb SCSI Disk (it's about 5 years old). Basically, I took my NVIDIA Geforce FX5600 256Mb video card out of the AMD machine (where it worked fine) into the dual processor machine and installed Ubuntu Linux (Feisty Fawn) on both (I won't bother describing here the reasons behind that decision unless you think it's relevant). Previously, running on Dapper Drake on my AMD 2600XP CPU, my NVIDIA card, and more to the point, Americas Army 2.5 worked like a charm. I had top level graphics with no problems at all. Since swapping to the other machine (with the two processors) and running AA on Feisty Fawn, I have a weird problem. Basically during game play, every few minutes the screen goes blank for about 3 seconds, then it comes back. Annoying, but not the end of the world. However, after a while the game kind of crashes, or seems to, for about 20 seconds, then it comes back but all the screen has 'flecks' all over it and every other 3D thing I try do thereafter suffers the same problem. It's hard to describe see there's a screenshot below of both the game and glxgears. My kernel is the 2.6.20-16-generic and I am using the Restricted NVIDIA Drivers using the 'Restricted Drivers' facility of Fesity Fawn. I have also tried installing the drivers manually using the Envy script written by tselliot. Problem persists : ![]() When I run glxgears I get about 2284 fps. It too has the same weird flickering but only after the game has started to display it. Prior to that it looks fine and after a reboot both work OK. ![]() Can anyone help me? What can I do to trouble shoot this? I have also posted this at Ubuntu Forums without any joy (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=528295). It was there that someone suggested I try here. |

Is this one of those 'unanswerable' problems?
