Default nivida 680gs versus ati x1950pro

Hi guys!

I currently have a nvidia 6800gs 256mb 256bit graphics card and was thinking of going with a ati x1950pro 256mb 256bit. (both AGP)

However, I don't want to dump 150+ down the drain if the improvement ain't worth it or if I should save for about a year or so (about how long it will take) to get a nice pci-e. What do you guys think?

Other PC specs are as follows:

AMD XP 3200+ (single core)
2gb DDR 3200

You will see a large improvement as long as you're not cpu limited, check out toms vga chart. Granted theres no 6800gs, so i just picked the faster 6800gt.

I would actually compare the 6800GS to the 6800 Ultra and not GT. I had a GT O/C a little above Ultra speeds and my roommates slightly O/C GS would score a hair above it in every bench. The 1950 is still the better choice across the board.

The 6800gs had 12pipes/5vertex compared to 16pipes/6vertex for the 6800gt, it was clocked higher but it was still slower then the 6800gt.

Unless you want to spead a lot more moving to Core 2 which would involve new board, chip, Ram and Video card I would go for the x1950pro you will see quite an improvement.

Also if you clock your chip a bit the x1950pro would love you more

I know, but that doesn't mean it was slower. The higher clocks made up all the difference. The GS was the replacement for the GT & Ultra because of the new process they were being built on.
