Wow, this war is becoming so complicated. At this rate there will definitely be no resolution until 2010 at the VERY earliest IMO, and Blu-ray can't die due to its trojan horse - PS3.
Makes you wonder just how long this can go on for Also I can't see any new video format superseding BD/HD-DVD any time in the near future as there is no point for the audio to be better than PCM 24-bit/48khz (movies are only recorded at that spec) so there is no progress to be made there and it will be a while until there are higher-than-1080p TVs out for any reasonable prices.Hmmm.... what optical disc media will PS4 use :O

IMO all this means is that the chinese can't pirate western media that easily.

To add to it Transformers is HD DVD only.
Aperently Michael Bay said he wont make a Transformers 2 if they dont go HD DVD. I read it on Fud so I dont know how bias it is.

What actually happened was, Micheal Bay said he wouldn't make a Transformers 2 since Paramount dropped support for Blu-Ray. But now mysteriously the dumbass has came around and accepted HD DVD which is good.

Back on topic, this makes a lot of sense for the Chinese market. They have been doing it with cell phones so that they don't have to pay the extrordinate ip licensing fees, and now they are doing it with their high def movie standard. In addition the CHD-DVD is hardware compatible with HD-DVD, which will make it easy to make a hybrid CHD-DVD/HD-DVD player. Expect this high definition format war to go on for a long long (long long long long long) time. |
