Default What OC can I expect with my new q6600 G0 + setup?

Just recieved a Q6600 SLACR (G0). Can't kick it into action right now, but I will be ordering an Asus P5K - Deluxe and 2GB Crucial Ballistix 8500 ram in the next week or two when my money eventually reaches my credit card 5 damn days at least!

Anyway I did do plenty of research on this combintation of hardware and apparently I should be capable of reaching at least 3.4GHz right?

I will be using a Tuniq Tower (from my current rig) as the cooler for this beast of a CPU, but will it be enough for 3.6-3.8GHz if I can get that high?

Overall how high can I expect to get my G0 Q6600 with the mb and ram I have selected?

Your expectations are well founded and you may very well hit those speeds. Just remember that all CPU's are different and just because one guys hits 3.6GHz, the next guy may not. If I were to bet on it though, I think you can make it but I'm not sure on the Tuniq Tower. I'm hearing good things about newer coolers these days.

Your temps might not be pretty, but I think you should be able to hit 3.5 or 3.6 with that setup.

I think the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme is just a little better IMO.I have the Q6600 and have a B3 stepping and it does 3280 on stock voltage and 3.5 at 1.425v.and temp stay under 40c with coreTemp and 55c with Prime95 running for a hour. But the Tuniq Tower is a good Cooler too.Plus the GO are supposed to overclock better.

Mine reaches 3.0Ghz, anything over that hard locks my PC no matter how much VCORE i set.
Runs extremely cool, about 38C @ full load.

Okay thanks for the feedback. If I can reach close to 3.6/3.8GHz and it's only heat holding me back I can always play around with case fans to improve cooling a bit.

Also this is my very first Intel CPU so not used to their physical design and i'm a bit concerned about something... My Q6600 seems to have small marks on it (the metal) hear and here. Tiny things that don't seem to be deep...

Is it normal for Intel CPU's (or C2Ds) to have slightly imperfect heatsinks? Like little marks and lighter parts on em? I am just used to AMD ones that never seemed to have a spec on them. I need to know if this is actually a problem as soon as possible though so let me know. Thanks.

If you want to get to 3.6 to 3.8 with 24/7 stability,go water. Most Q66 g0's cant hit that reliably, without truly crazy heat.

Even with a Tuniq/TRUE/etc... and good TIM application.Lapping might help a little.

Hey your system is very similar to what mine will be like. Are you unable to get any higher than 3.1GHz?

I have a Q6600 (L723a825) currently @ 415x9 for a 3.75GHz OC using only 1.400 Vcore and 1.392Vcore under load. This is using High End watercooling (WaterKegIII Xtreme) with load temps never going above 53c in my 19c ambient room. Idle is typically @ 24/24/24/24 (I lapped my CPU to a near perfect flatness)

I'm running my Q6600 G0 at 3.6ghz on air (using tuniq tower). Make sure to raise your VCORE, you need higher voltages for this kind of speed.

Hehe guys looks like i'm stable at 3.4GHz! Only running 1.36v through it

Temps now, at 3hrs prime, are hitting 69C with my room iced up so I won't be pushing for anything higher...

Deus how are you managing 3.6 with your Tuniq? Is it lapped? Thinking of lapping mine but im a bit scared..

Mine is not lapped. My idle temps with coretemp (other programs screw up temp reporting) is 46,39,42,44 idle, and 57,49,52,54 on load. Not sure why your idle temps are so high. Heres what my case looks like:

my fans are like this:

cpu-z

Sorry i dont have any load temps while running 4 instances of prime95, but the temps listed above is what they were (I can link to a txt with my load temps while running it recoded by coretemp).
