hello,
after the Xorg 7.3 got released, the nvidia drivers fail to load into the kernel.
please make the drivers compatible with the newer ABI.
thanks!

xorg has nothing to do with the kernel.

The next version of the driver will fix this. Untill then run X with "startx -- -ignoreABI".

Make sure you disable composite.

Why should he?

I'm running x.org 7.3 with the 100.14.11 drivers, composite enabled, compiz fusion running, starting with -ignoreABI and have no problems whatsoever.

I did that and it locked up the system right after displaying the nVidia logo.

Did you reinstall the nvidia drivers after installing xorg 7.3?

Works fine here... Arch linux.

Yes, but I found out it's not the nvidia driver what makes the problem

Code:
process 27496: arguments to dbus_connection_send_with_reply_and_block() were incorrect, assertion "(error) == NULL || !dbus_error_is_set ((error))" failed in file dbus-connection.c line 3171.
This is normally a bug in some application using the D-Bus library.
  D-Bus not built with -rdynamic so unable to print a backtrace

Stop dbus /etc/rc.d/dbus (that's how i have it) service (/etc/rc.d/dbus stop) and try it again. If that doesn't work then stop HAL completly (it will stop dbus too i think) and try it.

Try reinstalling (dbus) or find help on gentoo forums.

I believe AaronP of NVidia indicated in another thread here that Composite should be disabled if you are going to use -ignoreABI.

A revdep-rebuild might fix the dbus issue. Or it might not, as some of the upgraded headers might keep dbus from building. I have masked the following packages until there's an updated driver available:
Code:
>=x11-base/xorg-x11-7.3
>=x11-base/xorg-server-1.4
>=x11-misc/xkeyboard-config-0.9
>=x11-drivers/xf86-input-keyboard-1.2.2
>=x11-proto/renderproto-0.9.3
>=x11-libs/libXrender-0.9.4
The new keyboard driver and config are incompatible with the old server. Also, xorg-server 1.3 wouldn't build against the new renderproto, which in turn required the libXrender downgrade.

FYI, Gentoo Forums are read-only this weekend as the backend infrastructure/database is being upgraded.

I solved this problem by disabling the 'hal' use flag and recompiling xorg-server. Then X works fine with dbus,hal,gnome. I'm using Compiz, the compositor and everything. You still have to use: "startx -- -ignoreABI" though.
