I have also this bug, that I only see colord stripes, but this bug also appears with some "normal" windows like firefox, when a video Player was openend simultaneously.
I tried different settings and opened windows but I can't reproduce the bug. The only thing that I noticed, is if you use compiz-fusion, the bug appears earlier, in about 5-10minutes. With the normal metacity you can work about one or two hours and more.
In the attachment there are more infos, hope you can fix that problem, because its annoying to restart x everytime you watch a video.

I would say this is a serious bug. Pls nvidia fix it asap.
ATI is opening their driver now. You should follow.

I suffer from same bug after disabling compiz...
Launching nvidia-settings and changing one setting (I usually change Flat Panel Scaling "Force Full GPU Scaling" then revert the change) "restore" the video playback to "normal" -> no need to restart X

I too have experienced this problem on a stable ubuntu feisty fawn machine running mythtv 0.20-fixes (no changes in software or hardware for the last couple of months).

I have rolled back to 100.14.11 and everything is back to normal.

Glad its not just me
Upgraded to try to get rid of the playback stutter with mythtv and xvmc, especially on bbc 1
xvmc still stutters but dropping back to standard xv gives the colored pattern screen.
xine now only works with opengl. The problem goes away sometimes without an X restart
but changing settings in nvidia-settings did not fix it for me. I have not seen the problem
with xvmc in mythtv but there is too much stutter to be of any use, maybe more a mythtv problem.
Thanks,
-Brio.

Sometimes - like tonight it works just fine.

Thanks for the tip pijalu. That works quite well for me in addition to saving me quite a bit of time restarting X and the NVidia driver.

I'm also getting this. If i use XVmc then Xv doesn't work and vice-versa. Only one or the other will work

Just thought I'll join in.

I have seen the same issue with 100.14.19. And I notice switching to a VT console and back to X will fix the problem, even when the video is playing.

Another "me too." 7600GT.

Note that using the gl output device of mplayer doesn't show this problem (expected, I guess, as it doesn't use xv then)

mplayer -vo gl file.avi
