That may lower if the game ends poorly or gets weak towards the close. I see it as a slightly above average game. It is fun, I am enjoying it, and I'm glad I got it.

I like the story, the grit, the gore, the bizarre characters and changing between them to use their abilities when I feel like using another style, or it's essential to the situation at hand. I don't mind the occasional button mashing sequences. They didn't go crazy with them so they add flavor. I like when you use them to escape from the grasp of creatures and beat the snot out of them in the process. It feels good to actively and progressively beat the crap out of something that grabs hold of you with evil intent.

I can't think of a single game I've ever played that rates a 9. I'd give a few 8.5s though.

Games, like music and movies are art, so I am not surprised honest reviews vary in their rating because it depends on the taste of the person consuming the work.

I could understand someone that didn't care for FPS, gore, or the odd characters not liking the game. If I were more indifferent to the dark elements in the game I'd probably rate it a 6 or 6.5, and since it suits my tastes well it gets bumped to a 7.

From me a 5 rating means dead on average, not bad not good, passable. Terrible, or keep your money, would be 3 and below.

BTW I will be dropping screens in Doc's thread as I go along.
Well, this is the beauty about opinions. For me, a 10 game would mean that it was fun, and if it was fun, than I got my money's worth. There is no such thing as flawless when it comes down to taste. I have played too many games that would rate 10 in my book.

It's current average sits @ 7.1 here:

http://www.gamestats.com/objects/843/843257/index.html

Good marks from-

TeamXbox 7.8/10
GamePro 4.5/5
Play Magazine 8/10
GameTap 8/10
GameZone Online 8/10

Average marks from-

GameSpy 3/5
Worth Playing 6.2/10

Low from

IGN 5.6/10
1UP.com 3/10

Others not in the link-

MyGen.com.au 8.5/10

ExtremeGamer 6.5/10

AtomicGamer 71%

GameSpot's critic score averages 6.9 from 17 reviews, and 502 users opinions average out to 7.9.

I'll say again, it's a slightly above average game worth owning and playing IMO. I'd highly suggest working on unlocking some of its secrets before throwing it away.

Below lists some 'achievements' you may get from doing certain things in game. If you aren't interested in that sort of spoiler information, skip the link.

I'm liking it so far. About 5-6 levels into it but it's pretty good so far. Good story, nice sounds, graphics, and gameplay.

I give it a 7/10 thus far.

Just got the retail game. so far so good. all seven members are around & i'm just controling Jericho.
AA seems to have a considerable impact in this game but i'm playing without it @1600x1200 since jaggies can barely be seen due to the engine architecure & the darkness of the game i guess.

I think this must be one of the most underrated games this year.

I think the look of the game is great for what it is. The high HDR for a game like this is pretty neat. The animations for shooting the guns are well done. The stories pretty cool and the characters are all nice. The AI for your team is very well done. Nice amount of gore and language. If you control your team right you don’t have to spend most of the time running around healing everyone. Loading is very quick so not much downtime. The game isn’t that hard. I enjoyed playing this about as much as I did Bioshock. And I loved bioshock. The game kept me interested and wanting to finish it.

Nope , not that i know of anyways.

besides , they are not used too much as i've noticed so far. they should be "swallowable".

Those scenes aren't used a lot and they are looped for those that may find it more difficult. So you get to keep trying with no penalty.

I found one to to be challenging. The rest were easy. Stare at the screen and use your peripheral vision rather than looking at each arrow as it pops. I used WASD.

Also the arrows are useful for breaking the grasp of creatures should they get a hold on you.

I finished it last night, and I hated the end Boss, not because he was hard but because he looked so darn stupid.

You do a lot of mindless shooting in the game like any FPS and you also get to use abilities of all team members in creative and essential ways often. I liked them all for different reasons.

I will definitely be going back and playing specific levels I liked again. You may select and play any level you have cleared again under "Historic Missions". I'd like to take more time to unlock achievements too.

The demo really does not do this game justice. I wish it were actually a bit scarier but it has it's creepy moments. Definitely worth buying though.... now if I can just tear myself from the Crysis demo and actually play it some more ....
