Question Every 3D card you've EVER owned ??

Couldn't decide which graphics card forum to put this in, but, as the majority on my list are nVidia cards this seemed like the right place (okay i know there are more 3dfx cards than any other but they don't seem to count anymore)
Don't know if this has been done before (apologies now if it has) but with recent events in the 3D card market, I have been doing some serious pondering about which company will get my money when I (soon) upgrade my card. While I was thinking about this I started to think back to all the 3D cards I've ever had and would be interested to know how you guys have 'progressed through the ranks'

My list starts with the earliest and ends with the present day...

Matrox Millennium / Orchid Righteous 3D (3dfx Voodoo1)
Matrox Millennium 2 AGP / Creative 12MB Voodoo2 x 2 (SLI)
3dfx Voodoo3 3000 16MB AGP
Elsa Geforce SDR 32MB AGP
3dfx Voodoo5 5500 64MB AGP
Elsa Gladiac Ultra (Geforce2 Ultra) 64MB AGP (complete with blurred text and wavy lines)
Creative 3D Blaster Ti4400 128MB AGP

I'm sure some of you guys have had at least double the amount of cards I have had and would love to see which ones...

Not too much gloating please !! (hehe)

Here are all the cards that I have used in my personal comp:

Integrated Riva 128 8Mb
3dfx Voodoo 3 2000 PCI 16mb
VisionTek Geforce 2 GTS 32Mb
EVGA Geforce 4 Ti4400 128Mb

In my brother's comps (same house):
Some integrated 1mb POS in our first 1995 packard bell
Sierra Rendition Verite 1000 4Mb EDO
3dfx Voodoo 3 2000 PCI 16Mb
Gainward Geforce 2 Pro 64Mb
Gainward Geforce 4 Ti4400 128Mb

hehehe.... I'll never forget the first time I tried the Quake 2 demo on my brothers brand new $100 Voodoo 3 2000. That looked and ran so amazing on his 200Mhz Pentium MMX. Within a MONTH after I saw that, I had a new Voodoo 3 2000 in my 400Mhz Pentium 2 Gateway. Ive loved ALL of my cards (besides that Riva 128.... that thing didnt work in any accelerated games) over ythe years.

Hehe,

On my first Packard Hell it came with some Savage product

Then i added a Creative Labs Voodoo2(12mb)

Then on my next comp i had 2x Wicked 3d Voodoo2 (12mb) and a Riva TNT

Then I Change to a Radeon DDR32MB -same rig that 2x wicked 3d was on

Then to a Gf3 Ti200 what i use now. (the ti200 is on a completely diffrent rig

I also have a cuple Gf2MX's laying around for spare parts to test things when my friends bring their *broken* computers to me heh.

Unless you really want to buy vaporware, I'd suggest the NV35.
Because the R400 is cancelled. And something kinda similar won't be seen before 2004.
Sounds like ATI does have something to compete with the NV35, though. But details are rare

What was the specs of the R400? Other than "d00d its a 1337 NV35 killer."

In the Inq's Artile "Facts about nv35" i think they may have hit the bullseye with the R9600, where is it already? Maybe they will launch it when we see the 9800's

1. Cirrus Logic 5446v 2mb (first branded card I can remember, was ok-ish, had enhanced video playback or something, mpeg acceleration built-in)

2. Matrox Millenium 2 8mb (loved this when I got it, first card with alleged 3D acceleration, but it was v. limited. 2D was superb)

3. Matrox m3D 4mb (PowerVR 3d-only card, Ultim@te Race ruled )

4. 3Dfx Voodoo2 12mb (Fantastic at the time..)

5. 3Dfx Voodoo2 12mb SLI ( even better lol)

6. ATI Rage Fury 32mb (loved the dvd playback on this, had weeks of fun trying custom driver sets, and the games ran really good too. Damn thing burnt out and forced me to get..)

7. nVidia GF2mx 32mb (Served me well, got me through Deus Ex and other games which the Fury suffered under )

Still using the GF2mx, looking at upgrading to the ATI 9700np realistically, and hoping the 9800pro will force a drop on 9700pro prices to a level where I can afford one well.. I can dream lol

Nothing from nVidia is exciting me right now the way the GF3 and GF4 did.. but the nV35 looks like it could kick ass so if I haven't upgraded by then maybe a nV35 derived card could wind up in my case. But not if it has FlowFX, my case is already too loud and that's with a passively cooled GF2mx

Virge 2d PCI

Orchid Righteous 3D Voodoo 1

Voodoo 2 SLI

Voodoo 3 2000

Creative Geforce DDR

Asus Geforce 2 GTS

Asus Geforce 3 (x2)

Radeon 8500 (ATI built)

Nvidia Reference Geforce 3 (x2)

Nvidia Reference Geforce 3 Ti500 (x2)

Leadtek A250 Ultra (Ti4600)

Gainward Ti4600 GS (x2)

Asus Geforce 4 Ti4600

Connect 3D Radeon 9700 Pro

Sapphire Radeon 9700 pro

Reference Geforce FX 5800 Ultra

Nothing has impressed me more since than the voodoo 1 over the software rendering before it.

I considered the original Geforce DDr an unfinished "beta" product, many issues when it was new and the heat was never truely solved.

GTS 2 was how it should have been to begin with

Radeon 8500, (another "beta" release but more drivers than the hardware).

Radeon 9700 a truely great card, and probably the one I'm most impressed with overall after the Voodoo 1

Fx I'm currently using is just fine, but mainly because I'm not having to use the FX flow cooler.
