Default Video playback corrupted

After days of normal work (computer is running constantly), videos were corrupted, see attached screenshot (pattern of corruption was same on all videos).
Restarting xorg fixed problem, however this didn't happen with previous drivers. The problem seems to be reproducible only when you leave computer for days, but it occured once, since it was running from nvidia driver update.

Bug report included, however I forgot to run it when problem was actually present.

EDIT: mplayer is using xv.

Default Re: Video playback corrupted

I have a few questions:
0) Does this problem persist with an official SUSE kernel?
1) Which version of mplayer are you using, what is the full mplayer command that you're running, what kind of movie content is required to reproduce the problem, and what is the mplayer output for the good behavior & the bad behavior?
2) Does this problem persist if you disable the Composite extension in xorg.conf ?
3) Have you verified that you're using the latest motherboard BIOS?

thanks,
Lonni

0) Don't know, however never happened on this kernel setup. I just updated Nvidia driver.

Same thing here... It's random, can't reproduce consistantly. Happens with every type of video out there and every player that i've tried (mplayer, vlc, xine, you name it).

Happens with both composite on and off by the way.

Can only fix it by restarting X.

kriko,
Is the mplayer output you provided from when this was corrupted, or working? Note that I requested both.

AriciU,
Please provide all of the information that I requested earlier.

thanks,
Lonni

The bug_report.sh was generated when the problem was present.

Here is the output of mplayer when the video playback is fine:

It's so weird. No difference between normal video playback and corrupted video playback as i see it from mplayer's output. All that i had to do to cause the bug is open an intensive resource application like uTorrent thru Wine (uses around 50% cpu) and the bug appears.

It also appears if i open many firefox windows (13 windows) and try to play a video. The 14th FF window causes the black window bug so i didn't go that far.

Also, closing the high resource intensive application (close firefox windows, close utorrent) does not make the bug go away. Once it appears it stays there no matter what.

I'd also like to see the output from 'xvinfo' during the good & bad cases.

Can you comment on how many times mplayer can be started/stopped before the behavior occurs?

Default Re: Video playback corrupted

The issue does not appear if i stop/start mplayer... no matter how many times i do it.

To trigger the bug i start X, open utorrent thru wine or ~10 firefox windows, try to play any video => bug appears.

The weird thing is that if i do it in this sequence: startX; play a video, open utorrent / open 10 firefox windows; close video; play video again -> the issue does not appear anymore even though the same apps are running and using the same resources...

Anyway

xvinfo when playback is fine:

Default Re: Video playback corrupted

Does this problem reproduce if you switch to using the 'nv' X driver instead?

No. It works fine with the "nv" driver. Worked fine with 100.14.11 also.

Default Re: Video playback corrupted

I am seeing the video corruption on two machines. As kriko noted, it seems to be a problem with the XVideo extension. When playing videos in VLC media player and after I've encountered the corruption problem after some indeterminate time, I switch to X11 Video output and the video will play fine. I then switch to XVideo output and see video playback corruption again. You must stop then restart video playback when switching output modules in VLC.

I don't know if it will be helpful, but I will include output from both XVideo output and X11 video output in VLC as well as the nvidia bug report in the corrupted state. I had to zip up the bug report because it exceeded the forums file size limit.
