Default SLI 8800 10 deg temp drop for FREE :)

Just thought i'd share this GPU air intake mod with you.

Made it out of an old plastic box. Cut a hole in it and reshaped it, stuck it on the air intake to suck from the side of the case and voila, 10 deg cooler!

Before, the top card ran around 10 deg hotter, but now they run at same. For nowt! (that's 'free' to non-yorkshire folk ).

with 8800gtx there is no need for SLI, unless you get 30 inch screen

Very creative yet simple. Works best with cases wich have fan(s) on their side door I guess. Its blocking the hot air coming from the back of the lower card from entering the top card's cooling system.

If I was lets say frozencpu.com I would copy that and start selling it on-line!

Wrong forum section btw.

1. The side panel is full of fans, so no

2. Even with a side panel full of fans, it still ran hotter. It don't no more.

Kudos to good improvising.

Do you think it will be effective with my card?

Thats not true anymore, even at 1920*1200 SLI would provide some usful performance boosts with the latest DX10 games. But yes 30" users need 8800GTX SLI, trying to play at 2560*1600 with a single card would just be unplesent.

Can't see why not. Give it a go. You might as well for the sake 20 mins. Sucking in fresh cold air from outside the case has godda be better than using the warmer air from inside the case aint it!

Shocky: Doesn't that fan just suck air out of the case?
