I thought it about time i overclocked my system.....but not the GPU.
I have never overclocked this system and a lot of advice is needed... Everything is set to default in bios except the mem which is set to cpu/overclock 0% This gives my memory a speed of 800mhz at 4-4-4-12 2T, all my HSF's are standard also. I have read that orthos is a good program for measuring stability after the overclock but what do i use to change the cpu clocks? (there blanked out in bios-using latest bios from evga). Any help would be much appreciated. System spec is in sig........ |

I don't have a 680i so I am clueless on there bios but look around there should be a option for user defined settings or some thing similar.

I believe it is the FSB that gives the CPU a higher clock speed.
I found a guide to overclocking C2D on a a680i..... http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/747/747606p2.html |

Yes the FSB and its multiplier. But as you raise the FSB you have to watch your ram speed since it will go up as well depending on the buss ratio. But I do belive that on a 680I you can lock the memory's speed to a specific setting such as DDR2 6400 aka "400Mhz X 2"

Yes part of the overclocking guide explains to set the memory to expert and then unlink everything so i can manually set the timings etc

hehehe 3.8Ghz is a bit high for standard HSF.
I went for a safe core speed of 3Ghz with 1200 FSB, i disabled the SLI memory and unlinked it from the FSB then i manualy set the timings to 4-4-4-12 2T, im sure i could go further with the mem but i had to up the voltage to 2.1v and didnt really wanna go further than that. When i know more about clocking the mem i might consider it. ![]() Ive run Orthos for the last 2.5 hours and it has succesfully completed all the tests upto that time. CPU temp = 47c idle and 64c underload @ 1.225v I'm going to look for a aftermarket HSF tommorow and if all is still well at 3Ghz i'll take it further. ![]() |

After you replace the heatsink you could start upping the voltage in 0.025V increments, but try not to go over 0.20V from default voltage and load temp of 60-65C otherwise it could damage/kill your CPU in time.
BTW, has there been an instance with Core 2 chips like the 'northwood death syndrome' ? |

The scythe ninja rev B looks like a really good HSF and has good reviews.
Has anyone tried one of these yet and can give me an opinion on it ? |
